If you don’t like the weather wait 5 minutes

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

If you take a look at any of the thousands of wedding blogs and wedding magazines, you’re likely to have come across the colorful, vintage parasols from Bella Umbrella. Parasols are great for shade and work beautifully for props when the sun is shining and I recommend you check out Jodell Egbert’s vintage collection.

The term parasol usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun, and umbrella refers to a device more suited to protect from rain. Now, because I live in Portland, Oregon – I am more familiar with “umbrella”. It is spring and us true Oregonians definitely aren’t fazed by a little rain, but when it comes to your wedding day, that is a different story, especially if you are planning an outdoor wedding like my fellow blogger and bride-to-be  unabashedbliss.com .  Hopefully you have devised a “plan B” – just in case mother nature decides to NOT participate with you. You can coordinate some fabulous umbrellas with the entire wedding party as they walk towards and/or down the isle, if you are having an outdoor wedding. The pictures will turn out wonderfully, and I promise as long as your dad is carrying the umbrella, he has your beautiful head covered, your hair & makeup won’t be a mess once you reach your beautiful husband.

Click the above picture to get in contact with Freestone Innovations. The will make customized umbrella’s for you and your groom. What a perfect wedding favor for your guests to take home with them. I found out from Wishpot’s blog that umbrellas have long been used by ladies to draw the attention of men. I can just imagine a flirtatious twirl of a vintage umbrella by an enchanting bride is as hypnotizing to her groom as any watch swinging on a chain – are you seeing the “photograph” now? Super cute! And even more thanks to Wishpot’s blog, I found a fabulous vintage furniture shop! LeAnn is located in Seattle, this is great!  Woohoo! Anybody in need of some swanky vintage furniture??

Share your love in secret under an umbrella just for two. If you’re looking for some fun photography ideas than grab an umbrella, put on your rain boots, and skip along hand in hand through the rain. What’s hotter than kissing your new husband/wife on your wedding day in the rain??? Be brave and put down the umbrella to get soaking wet!

Above photography is done by the fabulous Elizabeth Messina. I am utterly twitterpated over these photos! Click on the photo to see these beauties up close at Kiss The Groom’s Blog.

Thank you for stopping by my blog! If you are planning an event or wedding and you need tips or help, I would love to hear from you.

Stephanie

Alfred Angelo Coupon!

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Alfred Angelo is offering another coupon for 50% off.  Save some money!  Tip for shopping;  The fabric of your gown needs to be one of the factors in making it “the one”. Lightweight fabrics like chiffon are the best choice for warm-weather weddings. If your nuptials will be in wintery-weather consider heavier fabrics. Worried about a little weight gain? Pick a gown with a lace-up back. This is a gorgeous way to have a more forgiving and figure flattering dress.

Loving Lazaro!!

Loving Lazaro!!

Whats your choice? Buying “the” gown is probably the first thing a bride thinks about. Make sure you try on a few different styles so you know which looks best on you. Make an appointment before you  head out to try on wedding gowns, so that you have the sales associates undivided attention.

My husband said the only thing he wanted to have an opinion on when it came to my wedding gown, was he wanted it to be a  lace-up back. This was My Dress and I went to Charlottes. Another place to check out is the Wedding Resource Studio, Lori is a blast! A bride won’t feel like a true bride if she picks the wrong gown, take your time and enjoy the process! Take your mom and be sure to take pictures, if the gown studio will allow it. ;)

P.S.  I found a beautiful vintage gown (not the one in this pic) with a lace button-up back at Weddingbee .

P.P.S.  This is a neat website for wedding gowns under $500 and they will make any of their dresses in the type of closure that you want.

Tents Up!

gorgeous

Looking for practical advice on how to decorate a wedding tent? Got wedding information overload? Let us worry about those details so you can focus on enjoying your day. How many guests are you expecting? Make sure all of your guests will fit under the tent comfortably, especially if you are planning for the entire event to be outside. You never can be too careful when it comes to the weather. We are on standby to oversee your event step-by-step.

To start off in your search, you should know that traditional pole tents provide more covered area for less money than any other type of tent. Pole tents are ideal for covering extremely large areas efficiently. If you decide to go with the traditional white tent you can do something really special: Lit all in red with light stenciling and raised table centerpieces with white ball lights, or you can choose a stripey tent. Striped tents are good for a fun event. The bold green and white canvas works well here for this crowded beach wedding with open sides. With the stripes and the beach, little decoration is needed.

There are different types of tents, and the sort you choose will impact on the final wedding decor.  For standard tents, the key difference is with poles or without. Clear span frame tents without poles are great for clear uninterrupted space. There are several ethnic tents, Bedouin, Moroccan, Arabian and even yurts if you are looking for an unconventional wedding. Your choices are endless. I have so many ideas, if you need someone to bounce some ideas off of, send me an email, I’m glad to help.

While researching for this blog, I found this set up also, I absolutely love this, I just had to share, CLICK.

Inspired

Todays post is about what kind of bride style you are.  Grace Kelly won an award once for epitomizing American beauty. She new exactly how to be gorgeous and remain timeless.

I have picked a few different gowns that were inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding gown. They are not all the same, but share similar elements.

Maggie Sottero has to be one of the all time favorites. She has created a few different spins of the original look.

When you think of Grace, think, delicate  rose point lace, silk faille, silk tulle and seed pearls.

For your very own  Grace Kelly gown check out these locations for a inexpensive version. :)

Weathering The Winter

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I can’t believe how much is out there for winter weddings, I am so inspired!  How fun would it be to get professional pictures of a snowball fight at the reception… Winter weddings can be a wonderland of ice,  snow, clear sculptures and rich luxurious colors and fabrics.

Imagine snow covered mountain peaks rising majestically from fir tree covered foothills. Close your eyes and take a deep breathe in the crisp, pine scented air. That is what a winter wedding is all about! Think of a ski lodge in the distance with its welcoming real wood-burning fire, the winter sun sparkling off the crisp white snow and the sky as blue as can be.  Should a snow storm occur at a most in-opportune moment then a fire side wedding ceremony must be one of the most romantic.

If the evening weather suits why not set out a bonfire and take your wedding outside, at least for part of the time. (Make sure to serve a warm drink, check out my blog about Signature drinks). There can develop a great sense of camaraderie around a campfire, unlike any camping trip you have ever been on! A group song may even be called for!

When planning the wedding, it is important to take care of the skin through the winter wedding process – While planning the wedding and choosing the dress, the bride may want to spend some time in the sun if possible, or with the help of a sunless tan to ensure that she is not as white as the dress she is wearing. Through the winter months it is easy to become pale and pasty and therefore it is important to ensure that the skin is ready to perform through the entire wedding and can therefore make an impact on every guest that has arrived. Be sure to moisturize extremely well upwards of two weeks before the wedding to ensure that the skin is just right for the special day.

There are many choices to be made on the run up to your wedding day and the choice of time of year is just one of them. Each season has its own attractions to offer and winter is no different. If you decide on a winter wedding enjoy and have fun, let us help you bring out the seasons special qualities.

If you are having an outdoor wedding in the winter – Use outside patio heaters, fireplace, wood stoves, over hang heaters, hobo stoves, fire pits, heated tents. Party favors= hats, gloves and scarfs in assorted colors or the color scheme of the party to stay with the theme.

Party Favors & Bonbonnieres

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

If you decide to include gifts for your guests as part of your event, they would add a decorative element.
Having a gift for your guests serves as a lovely token of thanks and remembrance of your special event.
A small, ornate box at a place setting or on a decorative table is a wonderful treat! We have plenty of great ideas to share with you.

sugarbowl

A little history lesson.. The popular belief is that wedding favors started with the Europeans, especially the Italians, French nobles and aristocrats. The wedding favors were then made of sugar cubes or delicate confections,  since sugar was quite an expensive commodity during that era. In addition, sugar also symbolized wealth and royalty. These sugar cubes or confections were placed inside small trinket boxes called “bonbonniere”. The boxes were made of crystal, porcelain or metal and decorated with precious or semi-precious stones. These bonbonniers were given by the bride and groom to their wedding guests as gestures of thanks for sharing in the happiness of their wedding day.

Signature Cocktails

Friday, December 11th, 2009

It’s the little things! The upside to having 1-2 signature drinks is that not everyone will like the one you picked out, so its good to have at least (1) more option and its very cost effective, you end up saving more than 50% on the overall event. Few things to think about; how will the drinks be served? What color will they be, keep in mind the color usually compliments the decor. Great drinks, great friends and money saving tactics. Perfect!

My top picks for some yummy cocktails dressed up for a party. Shake’m with ice and serve in a Martini glass! Don’t forget to accessorize with garnish. The recipes below are for single servings.

Signature

#1 Scooby Snack -1/2 oz. Midori Melon Liqueur, 1/2 oz. Malibu Coconut Rum, 1 splash Pineapple Juice, 1 Squirt of     whipped cream. Love these and people will get a kick out of the name.

#2 Grasshopper- 3/4 cream, 3/4 creme de cacao, white and 3/4 creme de menthe, green.  I would call this dessert its so yummy!

#3 Green Pina Colada – 3 oz light rum, 3 tbsp coconut cream, 3 tbsp crushed pineapples, add green food coloring for a festive look, then put all ingredients into an electric blender with 2 cups of crushed ice. Blend at a high speed for a short length of time. Strain into a collins glass and serve with a straw.

#4 7Up & Pepper Vodka – Those of you who like spicy sweet, Try this, its so refreshing with a surprising spice. Pour 7Up and Pepper Vodka to taste. This clear cocktail looks beautiful with any color, you can garnish with a Jalapeno for a little extra something.  Again if you like spicy, you’ll love this!

#5 Gingerbread Eggnog Martini – 1 oz Eggnog, 1 oz Hiram Walker Gingerbread Liquor, 1 oz Vodka, Combine all ingredients and shake well. Dust with freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon, if desired. You may also want to  garnish with a cute little gingerbread man hanging from the rim. A different twist to the everyday ho-hum eggnog martini.

#6 Candy Cane Cocktail – Creamy mix of Vanilla Stoli, creme de menthe, simple syrup, cream, dash of cherry liqueur, and a red & white sugared rim, garnished with a mini candy cane! Such a beautiful Christmas cocktail-this is a new one out there, but trust me, they are so yummy and very festive!

#7 Hot Cranberry-Apple cider(serves more than 1) You will need a 6 quart pot, 2 quarts apple cider, 1-1/2 quarts cranberry juice (not cocktail, no sugar added) 1/4 packed brown sugar, 4 sticks of cinnamon, 1-1/2 teaspoons whole cloves, 1 orange, thinly sliced, spiced rum or cinnamon schnapps. 1st, Combine all the ingredients in the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes. 2nd, Strain the fruit slices and spices. Garnish with two or three slices of orange. 3rd, Pour into stemmed mugs and add a shot of spiced rum or cinnamon schnapps. Serve HOT.  mmmmmm!  :)

Color me purple

PlumPurple

From lilac to lavender, violet to plum, purple has emerged as the hottest color for Autumn and now has trickled into Winter 2009. This season every major designer has featured this key trend in their collections, prompting fashion editors to declare purple ‘the new black’. Is purple the new black? Well, probably not, but it’s everywhere in the winter fashions. Look for open-toed pumps, high heeled Mary Janes, and boots of all sizes in these colors. Over sized purses from some of the hottest designers are coming out in shades of purple. Trends for pairing up purple are of course black, then we have gray, navy blue, silver, cream and meshing multiple shades of purple together. I say mix it up with some sage green! I got so inspired I had to pick a color board for an example of what could be a picture purple perfect wedding.  Need some help? Contact us….
