Whats for dessert?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Dessert tables are a wonderful idea for any occasion.  Beyond displaying an array of confections, creating a dessert table allows you to further enhance your style and color scheme. For weddings set in a rustic venue, consider offering a spread of simple desserts-like pie, cookies, or brownies. Incorporate family favorites-like your Aunt Lisa’s famous caramels- for an added appeal. If you’re hosting a more upscale fete, consider a selection of color-coordinated treats on matching stands. Keep the desserts bite size so guests can quickly grab a snack before returning to the dance floor. If you want to give your guests a real sugar rush-nothing beats a candy buffet. For a stylish display, let your color scheme guide your selection of sweets and stick to a few hues.

Festive Friday Night

Festive Friday

Just saying the words “Friday night” is the same as an invitation to relax and have fun, so nothing could be more perfect — or easier — than throwing a Festive Friday Night bash. All you need to do is provide a relaxing backdrop, entertaining food, and delicious cocktails. An e-mail invite is the perfect way to grab everyone’s attention and brighten a Monday morning in-box; design your own using one of the many free online sites. Start the party at 6:00 or 6:30, so guests can come straight from work, ready to have fun. Get the atmosphere buzzing with fabulous music. Try to stick with the same musical style so the music is enjoyable without being distracting. For starters, try a jazzy, seasonal mix by great vintage artists such as Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and of course Elvis singing, “Here Comes Santa Claus.”  A tip I learned from Martha Stewart today, have a few drinks yourself before your guests arrive, when they know you are relaxed and at ease, they will be also.  Enjoy your Festive Friday!” Cheers to you, cheers to me the best of friends we may be, but just in case we disagree, to hell with you and cheers to me”….

Just kidding! :) :) :) Happy Friday ya’ll!

Show your best friends how much you care with an evening of fabulous food, drinks and fun at your home. For this special group of close friends, nothing but a handwritten invitation will do. Pen a note telling each how much it will mean for you to see her/him at your home.

My husband and I were Christmas shopping today on 23rd and once again I found myself in Paper Source. I am in love with the store. One stop shop for anything and everything you need to create a beautiful one of a kind invitations. Not to mention all the amazing gift wrapping paper, ah! Did I say I love that store already? They do custom printing and have cool little tools to do your own embossing. They even do free in store-demonstrations. Aunt Pat you would love this store!

Signature Cocktails

Friday, December 11th, 2009

It’s the little things! The upside to having 1-2 signature drinks is that not everyone will like the one you picked out, so its good to have at least (1) more option and its very cost effective, you end up saving more than 50% on the overall event. Few things to think about; how will the drinks be served? What color will they be, keep in mind the color usually compliments the decor. Great drinks, great friends and money saving tactics. Perfect!

My top picks for some yummy cocktails dressed up for a party. Shake’m with ice and serve in a Martini glass! Don’t forget to accessorize with garnish. The recipes below are for single servings.

Signature

#1 Scooby Snack -1/2 oz. Midori Melon Liqueur, 1/2 oz. Malibu Coconut Rum, 1 splash Pineapple Juice, 1 Squirt of     whipped cream. Love these and people will get a kick out of the name.

#2 Grasshopper- 3/4 cream, 3/4 creme de cacao, white and 3/4 creme de menthe, green.  I would call this dessert its so yummy!

#3 Green Pina Colada – 3 oz light rum, 3 tbsp coconut cream, 3 tbsp crushed pineapples, add green food coloring for a festive look, then put all ingredients into an electric blender with 2 cups of crushed ice. Blend at a high speed for a short length of time. Strain into a collins glass and serve with a straw.

#4 7Up & Pepper Vodka – Those of you who like spicy sweet, Try this, its so refreshing with a surprising spice. Pour 7Up and Pepper Vodka to taste. This clear cocktail looks beautiful with any color, you can garnish with a Jalapeno for a little extra something.  Again if you like spicy, you’ll love this!

#5 Gingerbread Eggnog Martini – 1 oz Eggnog, 1 oz Hiram Walker Gingerbread Liquor, 1 oz Vodka, Combine all ingredients and shake well. Dust with freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon, if desired. You may also want to  garnish with a cute little gingerbread man hanging from the rim. A different twist to the everyday ho-hum eggnog martini.

#6 Candy Cane Cocktail – Creamy mix of Vanilla Stoli, creme de menthe, simple syrup, cream, dash of cherry liqueur, and a red & white sugared rim, garnished with a mini candy cane! Such a beautiful Christmas cocktail-this is a new one out there, but trust me, they are so yummy and very festive!

#7 Hot Cranberry-Apple cider(serves more than 1) You will need a 6 quart pot, 2 quarts apple cider, 1-1/2 quarts cranberry juice (not cocktail, no sugar added) 1/4 packed brown sugar, 4 sticks of cinnamon, 1-1/2 teaspoons whole cloves, 1 orange, thinly sliced, spiced rum or cinnamon schnapps. 1st, Combine all the ingredients in the pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes. 2nd, Strain the fruit slices and spices. Garnish with two or three slices of orange. 3rd, Pour into stemmed mugs and add a shot of spiced rum or cinnamon schnapps. Serve HOT.  mmmmmm!  :)

Creative Gift Wrapping

Turn on that Christmas music, it’s time get ahead start on that gift wrapping. Wrapping your presents should not be neglected, after all it’s half of the excitement when it comes to the art of gift giving. With that said, to start, make sure all things to wrap your gifts with are around you. I use to get up in the middle of my wrapping right when I had the perfect crease in the paper, but no tape/glue to be found, so I would have to get up and look for it.

Try to do something different instead of using traditional wrapping paper, (the store bought Christmas prints), pick solid colors and decorate with metallic ribbon for a nice bright change.

Make your own decorative gift tags . Check out Paper-Crave for some festive freebies. For a quick little example, cut out your own Holly leaf and decorate with some glitter.  Don’t forget about big bows and ribbon. The little things really have a way of making the gift look special.  Do you have a lot of left over tissue paper, ribbon and recyclables? Wrap Art Gallery has some interesting ideas.

You can make whats underneath the Christmas tree just as pretty as the tree itself. It adds a little extra to the gifts when you spend a little more time in the care of wrapping them. Happy wrapping and all a good night!
