For the love of color
Saturday, April 10th, 2010The latest and greatest emerging fad is colored wedding dresses! Colored bridal veils have been running right along the side with the colored wedding dress trend. I have never been one to be afraid of color and I simply adore this idea!
From the top left is a stunning bride in her equally stunning purple wedding gown! View more of Aimee’s dress and her gorgeous real wedding photos at Simply Bloom Wedding Photography Blog.
The gown on the top right is a gorgeous Black dress that makes use of a variety of wonderful fabrics. Doesn’t she look chic?! According to the experts, women feel amazing in a black dress and I am one for a wedding dress that you feel comfortable in. What do you think?
The bottom top left is the infamous Gwen Stefani, her dress features both classic white and just a hint of pink, her favorite color, made by Christian Dior.
On the bottom left is a magical photograph by Gordon McGowan a super talented photographer from the UK. I first saw this dress via Intimate Weddings Blog, the brides Blue wedding dress is stunning! This photograph took my breath away!
The Multi fairytaile colored wedding dress was first spotted by me on Offbeat Bride’s Blog. The dress was originally a prom dress bought by the bride at a dress shop in downtown L.A. To read her story visit HERE.
The bottom picture is Emerson, by EmersonMade. I am a fan! She is wonderful and makes gorgeous fabric flowers, clothing and much more. I love the photograph for two reasons. #1 What girl wouldn’t want to lay in a gorgeous dress along side a bed a beautiful flowers, real or fake? #2 Yes, the dress is gorgeous! Emerson looks like a beautiful bride and I don’t even know if it is a wedding gown or not, but I love it and think it would make a gorgeous gown and the colors she has combined together would make the perfect color palette for any wedding! Seriously, be sure to shop her site, TONS of goodies over there!
This real wedding is darling! The images by Di Bezi Photography are wonderful and Katie, (the bride) is beautiful in her frothy yellow wedding gown made by Vera Wang! Image found on Brooklyn Bride’s Blog! Be sure to read more about Katie and Michael AND to see more of this gorgeous gown on Brooklyn Bride’s blog.
Morocco and Rhajastan
Friday, March 12th, 2010Lavish, decadent and beautifully unrestrained is what I think of when I look at Amanda Wakeley’s bridal gowns. The photography is stunning. I picked my favorites from Amanda’s Morocco line :

Strapless dress with folded ribbon detailing on the bust cups and layered silk georgette skirt. {My fav!}

Strapless silk satin, corseted dress with pleated waist detail and full skirt {The gown looks so creamy dreamy!}
From her Rahjastan line I picked this one:

Silk georgette halterneck dress with Cleopatra beading detail {absolutely a dream gown-seriously gorgeous!}
I am positive any woman would feel like a goddess in any one of Amanda Wakeley’s gowns. They are so beautiful there needs to be another word to call them besides gowns or dresses. Seriously, can you think of another word? Amanda also has a pretty swanky jewelry line, some killer shoes and much more! You must check out her website! www.AmandaWakeley.com
Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend and happy-happy Friday! TGIF!

Flowing silk tulle and tiered skirts
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010Light weight, flowy, chiffon, tulle and tiered skirts all perfect for this season. I adore this gown by Christos Bridal! Let me introduce you to MARIBEL, she is made of silk -dotted organza with a hand pleated bust, full A-line skirt and chapel train. Isn’t she a beauty?!!
The gorgeous gown above is a mystery to me. I looked all over to find her, what she is called, how she is made etc. No luck. BRIDES.com has the photos, but no info.
I know that it too is designed by Christos for her spring 2010 line, I would only assume that it is made similiar to the Maribel gown..
I fell in-love with this gown because it is a tighter fit AND I love the delicate, sheer arm cuffs/shoulder straps! Perfect for us girls that don’t look so great in the puffier A-line.
Second is Temperley London! This dress makes me want to get married again ( to the same man) just so I can wear THIS dress!
Meet the “Long Ellette Dress.” This new found love of mine (Long Ellette Dress)
combines classic Temperley design elements into a gorgeous result. A heavily embellished tulle bodice hand finished with embroidery and silver crystals is trimmed at the neckline with silk satin flowers with organza leaves.
Delicate layers of silk georgette and organza cascade down the dress, creating lovely movement. The skirt can be fastened up with dancing loops to create a bustle look for an evening of dancing.

Making memories last
Monday, January 25th, 2010
I still remember digging through my mothers cedar chest and seeing her beautiful wedding dress for the first time. It has been kept safe and sound and looks just like it did in 1977.
Preservation? What’s that? “Preservation” means when used in conjunction with a wedding gown means to prepare for long-term storage by making sure the item is free of dirt, stains and any other foreign matter that will discolor or otherwise damage the fabric over time, then store it in an environment that will minimize damage from light, temperature and humidity changes, mildew and mold, and insects.
A friend of mine said to me, why don’t you blog about preserving wedding gowns. When I was getting married, I knew nothing about this. I love it when I get feed back from family, friends and readers. I want to share the things I know, things that inspire me and if I don’t know about it, I promise to research it so I do know and can share it with you.
If you aren’t going to donate your dress to a wonderful foundation like Brides Against Breast Cancer and decide you want to keep it as sentimental piece of your most important day, like I did, you should know what to do to keep this gorgeous gown in great condition.
Through creative marketing however, “preservation” has, in some circles, come to mean a specific method or process designed specifically for wedding gowns. Be suspicious of any process with a special trade-name. There are no secrets to preserving any type of garment. Any museum conservator will confirm this. ( And I encourage you to ask.) What’s out there – and does it work? If you have looked into having your wedding gown preserved, you have probably already come across some of the methods of storage in common use. Plastic bags, vacuum-packing, acid-free boxes…. Some of these methods have been around for many years – but do they work? One of the more popular storage methods is to have your gown sealed in a plastic bag and in turn store that inside a decorated display box. Although attractive in appearance, this method does introduce some technical problems of its own. First of all, plastic bags are one of the worst possible storage mediums – arguably worse than just leaving our gown in the open. Here’s why:
- Plastic bags give off fumes in the form of “plasticizers” (chemicals that stop the bags going brittle). These fumes discolor fabrics over time. Remember, your gown is sealed in this chemical-laden air, accelerating the discoloration process!
- Plastic bags are very good at sealing in moisture. This can accelerate chemical destabilization of dyes and is an ideal environment for the growth of mildew and mold. Either condition will ruin a garment.
Tip-Top Cleaners is Portland’s first east-side environmentally friendly cleaners. They utilize the GreenEarth cleaning system and specialize in wedding gown preservation. Mickey the owner of Tip-Top cleaners is so sweet, I just love her. Mention her website and receive a 20% discount on your first service. Her wedding gown preservation service starts at $250. Some professional places will charge $1000 just to look at a dress. Mickey does it herself and doesn’t ship the gown off to Seattle or California like most cleaners do. She was telling me that the other day a woman brought in her 105 year old wedding gown her mother wore in 1905 and the woman wore it to her wedding in 1955 for her wedding, it went in gray-brown came out white and brought tears to her eyes.
Then of course there is the infamous Wedding Gown Specialists. This company does everything from preservation to restorations and provide a museum quality packaging environment. You can contact the customer service department to find a certified wedding gown specialist near you.
Most local Bridal gown shops will sell Wedding gown preservation bridal dress cleaning kits. They can run from $149 and up. When you choose the kit, your gown will be cleaned and preserved and stored in a preservation chest with a convenient carrying handle, then placed in a crush-proof shipping container. (you send it off to be cleaned) You will receive a 20-year certificate of guarantee on this $500 declared value; up to three additional accessories can also be processed for free.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. Take special care in preserving your wedding gown. Maybe your daughter or your daughters daughter will want to wear your wedding dress someday.
